Puppy Pickup Tomorrow!

One more day until we get to pick up Mr Green, aka Charlie. The breeder (Billie Jenkins at Silver Creek Doodles) has been busy all week getting the puppies ready - getting them micro-chipped, giving their first vaccines, putting together go-home bags, and trimming hair and nails.

I'm a little worried Charlie might be bored when he gets here. We don't have any other puppies for him to play with and we don't have a lot of toys in our backyard. I'm not sure what that purple toy is, but he sure seems to like climbing on it. Maybe he thinks it's a lounge chair (which we do have).

He might like climbing over Slitheran, our concrete yard art in the backyard. Having a fire-breathing serpent as a piece of yard art is very apropos at present as one of our poor trees seems to be dying. The funny thing about Colorado is that mountain trees seem more likely to die from too much water, rather than a lack of water. And with all the record-breaking rain we've been having, it's not surprising that the tree is drowning. Maybe I'll wait until after December to dig it up and just call it my Charlie Brown Christmas tree.

This week I had lunch with my ladies' group. We went to an Asian restaurant called, August Moon. It was one of those fabulous places that serves lunch specials with soup, egg rolls, entree, and rice (I had the Kung Pao special with chicken, beef, and shrimp). I probably should have asked the waitress to take our picture rather than attempting a selfie, but at least we all look happy (even if our faces are cut off).

I also went out biking twice this week - once with my regular group. It was kind of a quickie ride, because some people had to get back for MahJong and I had to go to my ladies' lunch. The nice thing is we got 2 new women members. The lady in the purple shirt actually just moved here from the Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri.

The second ride was longer, but slower-paced. I took some of the girls (we nicknamed ourselves the Biker Babes) down to the Platte River and Bear Creek Trails (about 22 miles round trip). One of these days, we're going to ride all the way to the town of Morrison in the foothills, but like the rest of Denver, a big chunk of the bike trail is being closed next week for renovation. I'm glad all the roads and trails are getting fixed, but it's really becoming annoying when you want to go out.

And speaking of road renovations, they are finally installing traffic lights at the freeway exit next to our neighborhood. Why they waited so long to replace the stop signs is beyond me, but I wonder how long these will last. We have terrible winds this high up in Denver. Hanging these traffic lights from simple wires rather than a steel pole seems iffy, but only time will tell.
