Vancouver

I went to the ASEE convention this week (engineering educators) in Vancouver, Canada. The Convention Center is located right on the water (Burrard Inlet) - a deep water channel. The cruise ship terminal was on one side and the Olympic Torch on the other.

The weather was really nice, so I came out each morning to watch the ships. This section held the docks for all the seaplanes. One night we went down to the Gastown Historic District for dinner. We got to see (and hear) the Gastown steam clock. Every quarter hour, the five steam whistles on the top of the clock play Westminster Quarters (dee dah dee dum, dah dee dee dum, dum dum dum...). The clock looks historic, but it was actually built in 1977 as a tourist attraction when this area was first renovated.
