When people first retire, they tend to hit the road and travel to new adventures. I like to tease Bruce that his first retirement trip was to Branson. I was scheduled to work the ISEA conference (International STEM Education Association) and Bruce went along as my side-kick.
Mostly he spent a lot of time figuring out how to use the GPS, reading his tablet, and walking along the waterfront.
We were able to take in a show before the conference started - Dolly Parton's Dixie Stampede. The show was very entertaining - kind of an American Royal-type horse show. Very historical and patriotic as most of Dolly Parton's shows are (Dolly herself was only there via the big screen TV). The most unusual feature of this show was the dinner. It was a huge feast - a whole rotisserie chicken, a thick slice of pork loin, soup, a biscuit, corn on the cob, an apple fritter, and sweet tea - all eaten without silverware. You just had to dig in with your hands. But it was very delicious and definitely filling. You couldn't take pictures inside the theater, but they took ours outside by the horse stables.
I worked pretty long days, but I finally got to take a little break on the last day and do some sketching on the waterfront.
