Normally we don't get much rain in September, but it poured this weekend making a mess for the Clayton Art Fair (which is held outdoors). All the artists were able to display their work inside individual tents, but it made it a real pain to get a close-up view.
Luckily, we got a break in the rain on Sunday, so I made a mad dash over to the show. Several artists had already either packed up and gone home early or never showed up at all, because there were a lot of empty booths. My favorite artist from the show, however, happened to be from St Louis, Sharon Spillar. Most of the artists from this show tend to be "professionals" from other states, especially New Mexico and Florida.
It seemed like this year, the organizers were taking the term "fair" literally, because there were all kinds of additional entertainment. One local cookie shop had a character roaming around and posing for photos. Thank goodness the rain cooled things down, because this poor person would have been sweating to death just 3 days ago in our 95-degree heat.
The food court was packed with more people than the actual art section (typical St Louis). But then I noticed everyone was focused on some acrobats doing stunts on a huge wheel. You can't tell it from this photo, but that wheel was rocking back and forth like an amusement park ride. I don't know how the girl kept from getting banged around. But it was a nice show and thank goodness it's cooler. Maybe I can get outside now and enjoy the fall weather.
