Botanical Sketching

I took a class on Saturday at the St Louis Art Supply on botanical sketching. I don't tend to draw plants and flowers, so I thought this might be a good way to try something new. The class was taught by a former horticulturalist from the Missouri Botanical Garden - an incredibly talented young lady. She recommended I try her stippling technique for drawing the aloe plant (stippling involves making millions of tiny dots for shading). Since I'm not big on patience, I used stippling on the potting soil, but then switched to curved cross-hatching on the rest of the plant. With all those tiny leaves, I'd still be working on this drawing if I was trying to stipple it.
