It's been rather tricky trying to get in a daily walk this month with all the rain and lockdown restrictions. But when Janet sent me a note saying she was on-target to accomplish our 250,000-step goal this month, I figured I'd better quit making excuses and catch up. So the next day I headed out for a walk around the neighborhood, but before I went half a block, it started pouring down snow. Big fat flakes. Luckily, there wasn't much accumulation, but it was wet enough to cut my walk short...again.
So the next day, I set off determined to make my goal. It's a little creepy when you're out walking right now. There are a lot of other people out, but when you get close to them, they veer off into the street. It's nice that they're keeping their 6-foot separation, but it tends to make you feel like you have B.O. or some other off-putting feature. They've been building something next to Mia Ranchito, but I always assumed it was an apartment building for the college students, since it's so close to Wash U. But on my walk I passed a sign that said it was going to be a senior living and memory care facility. This would be a perfect place for me to move into when I turn 90, because I can just walk across the street for Mexican food.
In my continuing efforts to entertain myself during our lockdown, I decided to make some face masks. The only fabric I had were some colorful squares I bought a while back to make a robot quilt. I went on Google looking for a pattern and found a YouTube video that said you could make one in 20 minutes. Well it took me all day to make 4. My sewing machine had a tough time going through all those layers of fabric.
I also decided to try my hand at baking bread. I watch the "British Baking" show on Netflix all the time, so I picked a recipe for ciabatta bread figuring that would go great with the chili I was making for supper. My loaves didn't end up looking all that good, so Paul Hollywood doesn't have to worry about me taking over his job. But they tasted great.
I went to the grocery store the other day during senior hours... MISTAKE! The place was packed. One lady said she set her alarm for 4:30am so she'd be sure to get there right when the store opened at 6. While most of the seniors were fighting over toilet paper, I headed over to the soda aisle. As my t-shirt that Melissa gave me says, "I can survive anything with enough Dr Pepper." But believe it or not, all the cans of DP were sold out! They had Coke and Pepsi and Mountain Dew, but no DP. I finally got down on my hands and knees, and found a six-pack of bottles way in the back of the bottom shelf. Goodness. What is this country coming to???
