I Made It
The day we moved to Colorado and I found out there were so many bike trails in our neighborhood, I set a goal of riding to Cherry Creek Park by the end of the summer. I've technically been to the park several times over the last 2 months, but never starting from our house (I've been putting my bike on the car and driving to trailheads along the bike paths). Well today, I finally made it all the way to the Visitor Center and got my state park passport book stamped - 25 miles round trip!
Since most of the trails run along creeks or open range, you see a lot of wildlife. Sometimes it's cute critters, like prairie dogs. There are tons of them along the trail, but it's hard to take a decent picture, because they run back into their holes.
At other times the wildlife is a little scary, like the snakes that wiggle across the path. Yikes! It creeps me out even more when I see them slither back into the grass. What if I were walking the trail instead of riding through it quickly???!!??
I guess it could be worse and I could run across a bear or mountain lion. On Sunday when Bruce and I were hiking in Cheyenne Mountain State Park we came across this sign. Bruce was really excited, of course - he thinks it would be cool to encounter a bear. If I saw a bear, I seriously doubt I'd stand there and "speak firmly to it." I'll let Bruce do the talking while I'm screaming and running away.
