New Car!
When we decided to move to Colorado, Bruce said he was going to have to trade in his Mazda for something with 4-wheel drive, because his little convertible would get buried in the snow.
So like most of the other Baby Boomers who are retiring to Colorado, he bought a Jeep Wrangler. It took about a month to get it, because with COVID there is a shortage (aren't you tired of hearing that excuse???). It looks huge in our garage, especially parked next to my Mini Cooper, but he won't have to worry about the snow. This thing is so powerful that he can put a blade on the front and plow the whole street if he wants.
In other news, I went on a tour of the Depot Art Gallery in Littleton, CO with the Girls Just Want to Have Fun Club (they have a club for everything here). I wasn't sure where Littleton was, but I found out it's just another suburb a little south of downtown Denver.
I actually bought one of the pieces of artwork - a quirky little sculpture that is now hanging up in my bedroom. This lady is the artist who made it. She was also one of the docents leading us on the tour. She said those blue and copper colors don't come from paint, but from burning the ceramic in a trash can. Interesting.
I was so impressed with the art gallery that I went back a couple days later and did some sketching on their patio. The main gallery is housed in an old train depot. Bruce would have died at all the original oak woodwork, including the old ticket window, office desk, and file cabinet. Next to the patio, there's an old train car housing even more art work.
I took my bike along with me so I could do a little exploring. There are bike trails everywhere in Denver, so it's not hard to ride around. One of the trails ran along the Platte River. This guy was trying to kayak down it. While the water was flowing pretty fast, it wasn't nearly deep enough to keep his kayak from grounding out on the bottom. He finally gave up and just carried his kayak the rest of the way down the river.
Bruce and I are still going hiking once a week. This time we went west into the mountains to Staunton State Park. This park is very popular with rock climbers and mountain bikers, but I managed to find a simple hiking trail that wasn't too steep. I can't imagine trying to heft myself up the side of a rock wall via a rope.
I continue finding signs for local wildlife that freak me out. This rattlesnake sign spooked me, since I often sit on the ground to do my sketching. I can't imagine what kind of sign I'm going to find next. Hopefully this is the last type of critter I have to worry about.
