Pool Opening
Most swimming pools traditionally open on Memorial Day weekend, and our neighborhood pool was no exception. They had a "grand opening" party with music, drinks, and ice cream. The weather cooperated for a change (no snow), but it still wasn't warm enough for anyone to actually get in the water. I took my sketchbook to the pool and just soaked up some sun.
I finally got tired of waiting for the neighborhood association to seed the public space behind our house, so I went out on my bike early Sunday morning and dug up some "native plants" along the bike trail. I'm not sure if they'll survive being transplanted, but at least it's a start and I doubt the deer will be likely to chew on these. The deer have been really bad here lately jumping the fences and eating the flowers out of my neighbor's porch pots. She tried chasing them off with an air horn, but they just looked at her like she was annoying.
Violet and Lincoln graduated from the 3rd grade and kindergarten, respectively, so they are now on summer vacation. They have a new pool in their backyard, which they've already swam in several times this past month. Their blood is thicker than mine, though I also suspect it's much warmer in Kansas City.
Bruce went on a hike with the hiking club. I skipped this one, mostly because of the elevation gain (1300 ft to the top!). I'll admit, it looked like nice scenery, but I think my choice to sit by the pool was the better Memorial Day option.
