House Projects
Most of the people in our neighborhood moved in and immediately called a contractor to refinish their basements. But we decided we'd like our basement to stay a junky spot we don't have to worry about. Our only nod toward improvement is to paint the basement floor. It makes it so much easier to keep clean. So Bruce did all the prep work (there was a lot of spilled glue and plaster that needed to be scraped up),
and I did all the edging around walls, the sump pump, and support posts. We're just painting it a gray color (actually about the same color as the original concrete). It's so nice to paint on a nice, smooth surface that doesn't have a hundred years-worth of patches.
I think the snow has finally stopped (it's June for goodness sakes!!!), so I decided to plant some petunias in the front yard. They're pretty tiny right now and I'm not sure if the deer will eat them up, but it will be nice to get a little color in the yard this summer. The bigger plants are something the builder put in. Most of them look a bit like weeds to me.
The wind has also finally died down, so the bike club did a loop ride along the Cherry and Piney Creek Trails starting and ending from our neighborhood. Last year, I had to put my bike on the car and meet them at the dog park, but I managed to make the whole ride this time (about 25 miles total). I was really dragging though, when I got back home.
I bought myself a book called, Walking Denver. It describes 32 different neighborhoods, mostly in the downtown and midtown area. This past Sunday I went to the Park Hill neighborhood. It reminded me a lot of our old St Louis neighborhood with brick bungalows and tree-lined streets. They were even having a small art fair on the grounds of the Masonic Lodge.
As I was walking around the neighborhood, I found a cute little bakery with a large outdoor patio, so I ordered a scone and sat down to do some sketching. It was so peaceful until about 10am when all the dog walkers and stroller-parents descended upon the place
I finally got to use the Dairy Queen gift card Janet gave me for Christmas. DQ has been advertising some new spring flavors in their blizzard treats, so I decided to try one called Oreo Dirt. After my first bite, I was a little freaked out to feel something a bit long and slimy in my mouth. When I spit it out, I realized they were taking the "dirt" title seriously and the blizzard was loaded with gummie worms. I'm sure a kid would love all that extra sugar, but that pile of worms was just too much for me.
