As if the rain wasn't bad enough, we got a yard full of marble-sized hail this week. There was so much hail that it looked like snow.
But the rain came down so hard that it washed a ton of dirt and gravel down our street from the new houses being built 2 blocks away! Luckily most of our mulch stayed in the garden. I think it's been rained on so many times that it's all packed down now.
But Bruce had to go out and shovel back the dirt that washed away from our back porch. And I ended up transplanting one of our new bushes to a drier spot, because it's been sitting in a puddle of water for a month. This has been the craziest spring weather-wise.
Luckily, we did get a few sunny days, so Bruce was able to hang the gates on the fence. But he still can't finish setting the last pole, because the water table is just too high right now. Oh well, that's a good project for July (assuming the rain finally stops).
I got to play in my first Pickleball Round Robin on Tuesday. We were supposed to start the first of June, but the games kept getting cancelled. I'm really, really rusty from barely playing since last year. I think I spend more time at the Pickleball Club Happy Hours than I do on the courts. At least I got to wear my new skort I bought with Janet's birthday money.
I went to lunch with my Ladies Out to Lunch group. We went to the clubhouse restaurant in the golf course community right next door to our neighborhood. Their clubhouse is much bigger than ours, but they also have a much, much higher HOA. I'm glad we don't live there.
I found out that I could walk over to the restaurant faster than driving by cutting through the fire lane between the 2 neighborhoods. Along the way, I saw this fairy village. I guess this is a Colorado style, since the fairy houses look like a pueblo reservation.
I got to have a video chat with my friend, Joyce. We haven't been able to get together long enough to have a game day, but at least it was good to catch up on the St Louis news. While we seem to be getting a ton of rain, they are having gorgeous, unseasonably mild weather.
Melissa's kids are certainly enjoying their new pool this summer. Our neighborhood pool opened up Memorial Day weekend, but I haven't seen too many people actually get in it yet. A lot of the neighbors have been complaining about the hot tub being out of commission, but the pipes froze when we had those sub-zero temps last winter. I'm hoping our weather finally does get warm enough to get in the pool, especially since I just bought a new swimsuit (my first in about 10 years!).
I went down to the Park Hill neighborhood on Sunday to my favorite coffee shop, the Honey Hill Cafe, to do some sketching. It was such a nice day that I walked over to the zoo after I finished my mocha and scone. OMG, was it packed! Since it was Fathers' Day, I think they were letting all the Dads in free. I found a nice bench in front of these giraffes and decided to avoid the crowds and do another sketch.
I started a new bike challenge with some of the girls in our Bike Club. We're going to try to bike the entire Highline Canal Trail (71 miles) by the end of the summer. If we do, we get a patch from the park department (woo hoo!). I've already done a few pieces of the trail on my own. It's not a hard trail to ride, since it's mostly flat. The difficulty is driving across town to get to a trailhead. The traffic in Denver is horrendous!
