Happy Mothers' Day

Our neighborhood social committee sponsored a Mothers' Day Fashion Show and Brunch on Friday. It was somewhat interesting, somewhat strange. The advertisement said it was supposed to start at noon, but when my friend and I arrived at 11:45, almost all the seats, lunches, and mimosas were already taken by the other ladies (maybe they were on Central time). The box lunches came from Jason's deli - not the most elegant, but not a bologna sandwich like Bruce thought we'd be given.

The clothes for the fashion show came from White House Black Market, but the models came from the social committee. Not exactly a New York runway show, but entertaining. The store manager told everyone they'd get a 25% discount, but truthfully none of these clothes inspired me to head down to the store. They should have had a sponsor more to my taste, like REI or Eddie Bauer.

For Mothers' Day, we got a ton of rain. That's really a good thing for the garden as it will help all the new plants get started. All of those little baskets are plants that I made Bruce move from the backyard. There are a lot of deer in the neighborhood and the baskets should help keep the deer from eating them. We have a lot of the same baskets in the back yard to keep Charlie from digging up the new plants.

I guess the birds don't have any place to go during the rain, because they've been hanging out on our balcony railing all day. Charlie sits in the window watching them, but it doesn't seem to bother the birds. They just keep on singing... and boy are they loud.

So Charlie got his summer haircut this week. I think the groomer was a little heavy-handed with the shears, because poor Charlie hardly has any hair left. Hopefully it will grow out quick and he'll get back to looking like his regular scruffy self. He doesn't look very happy about his haircut.
