Happy Father's Day, Bruce

Most dads get to spend Fathers' Day with their kids or grandkids. This year, Bruce is spending his special day with the dog.

Charlie is an odd kind of dog. Most dogs love riding in the car. Charlie tolerates it... barely. He won't relax and lay down, but sits at attention in the back seat, drooling over the shoulder of the driver. Bruce took him up to the mountains this week to go on a hike at Echo Lake. Charlie didn't mind the hike, even on this steep, rocky trail; but he hated the twisty, winding roads to get there. Poor Bruce came home with the shoulder of his shirt totally soaked from Charlie slobbering all over it.

We had a horrendous hailstorm this week. The hail itself wasn't that big, but the storm lasted over an hour. I thought it was going to break a window, it was so loud every time a piece hit the glass.

Luckily, we didn't get any roof damage, but several plants took quite a beating. Hopefully, they'll all perk back up.

But typical Colorado, the sun came out bright and shiny the next day. I went out on a bike ride on Wednesday. We rode all the way downtown via the Cherry Creek Trail and stopped at Olive & Finch for a late breakfast muffin. It was such a nice day, that I stayed to do some sketching while the others rode back home. By the time I left, the temperature had climbed to 95 degrees. Good grief was that a hot ride back to my car. I found out later that Denver broke a temperature record that day.

On Friday, the neighborhood social committee sponsored a Cowboy Jamboree. In years past, this has just been a few food trucks with a country western band. This year we got a new social director who went whole hog in the planning. She had lasso spinning, axe throwing, country line dance lessons, caricature artists, and selfies with Hogan the bull. The little kids got to sit on Hogan's back (the brave ones, that is). The cowboy on the right kept trying to push me closer to Hogan for the picture, but I was nervous enough even standing this close. Hogan was HUGE!
